On the distribution of microelements in the waters of operating mines in the Eastern Donbass
Abstract
The article investigates the distribution of 9 microelements in the mine waters of operating coal mines in the Eastern Donbass. Relevance of the research is determined by the need to summarize the available data to substantiate measures to mitigate the harmful effects of mine waters on the environment, as well as the possibility of using the obtained information for prospecting and exploration of ore deposits. Aim. Improving the scientific basis for predicting the chemical composition of coal mine waters and the methodology for prospecting and exploration in the region. Methods. The conditions governing the accumulation and distribution of the nine trace elements in the mine waters of the Eastern Donbass were studied using general scientific and statistical methods. Results. The distribution of Pb, Cd, Ni, Co, Mo, V, Zn, Cu, Cr was identified and compared across the region as a whole and within its individual geological and industrial regions. The content of microelements is distributed mosaically over the area. The most saturated waters are NGIR, SHGIR and GZGIR, the least – KGGIR, BKGIR. Pb, Zn, Cu, Mo, Cr, Ni are widespread. A number of elements (Cd, V) are very insignificantly distributed. Accumulation of trace elements is generally favored by the acid reaction of water, which is the result of oxidation of sulfides in the massif. Both direct and inverse correlations between the contents of individual trace elements have been found, which reflects the possibility of their co-migration into the water and the removal of some of them from it. There is a specialization of GZGIR for Zn, Cu, Ni, Co, V; KGGIR for Mo; NGIR for Ni, Cd, Co, Cr. Elevated contents of a number of trace elements tend to be found in areas of igneous rock intrusions and large faults. This spatial correlation suggests the potential presence of polymetallic mineralization. These findings are of interest for the geoecological rehabilitation of the territory and for ore prospecting. The prospects for discovering ore deposits are associated with areas of concentration of magmatic bodies, as well as elevated contents of the considered complex of microelements in mine and underground waters in the south of the region.
