Abstract

The relevance of the study is determined by the need to assess the prospects for a possible expansion of the range of useful components of the ores of the gold-bearing occurrences of the Eastern Donbass. Aim. To study the concentration levels of gold, platinum, palladium, rhodium and other ore elements in various ore-bearing rocks composing the Kerchik and Trofimov ore fields. Methods. Geological routes with sampling of ore formations and host rocks, analysis of samples for gold, platinum, palladium and other ore elements by atomic adsorption and emission spectral methods. Analysis of production reports and published works. Results. It has been established that the carbonaceous siltstones of the Kamenskaya formation of the Kerch ore field, containing sulfide inclusions and nodules, have increased concentrations of Au (0.02–1.02 g/t), Pt (0.1–0.2 g/t) and Pd (0.05–0.09 g/t). At the same time, the concentrations of these elements are directly correlated with the content of sulfides in the rock. Also, markedly increased concentrations in rocks containing sulfide inclusions are noted for Ag, As, Co, Ni, Cu, Mo, Pb, Zn, and Y. It is shown that the concentrations of platinum group ele- ments in the rocks of the Kamenskaya and diamond formations of the Trofimovsky ore field are below the detec- tion limit of these elements by the applied analysis method (<0.005 g/t). The revealed gold content in various rocks of the ore field varies between 0.0043–0.1 g/t, which in most cases is higher than Clark values. A regular increase in gold concentration within the siltstone-mudstone strata of the Kamenskaya formation in the sand- stone –siltstone –mudstone series (from 0.0084 to 0.1 g/t) has been established, which may indicate the primary (sedimentogenic-diagenetic) nature of the enrichment of these rocks with gold. Among other studied elements, increased concentrations in the rocks of the Trofimovskaya perspective area are noted for V, Cr, and Pb. In the sandstone–argillite–carbonaceous argillite–coal series, concentrations of Pb, Cu, and Sr increase naturally. The concentrating role of carbonaceous matter of terrigenous rocks is also noted within the Kerch ore field for Pb, Ag, Mn, Nb and Y. The main geochemical feature of the host terrigenous rocks of the Kerch ore field is the increased concentration of Pt and Pd in them due to the influence of lamprophyric magmatism. This is a prerequisite for the detection of ore manifestations of platinum group metals. The territory of the Trofimovsky ore field is distin- guished by its monometallic specialization in gold of the stratiform sulfide-interspersed type.
