Mountain regions of Russia as centers for the development of ecological tourism
Abstract
The relevance of the paper is determined by the increasing role of tourism and recreation industry to solve the problems of backwardness in terms of socio-economic development, characteristic of mountainous regions of Russia and the world. The aim of the work is to assess the differences in the potential of mountain regions of Russia for organizing ecotourism. Research methods: analysis and synthesis, generalization, statistical, comparative-geographical, systematic and historical. Results. It has been proven that in conditions of vulnerability of mountain ecosystems, in order to prevent their degradation, preserve biological diversity, ecological tourism should become an alternative to mass tourism. Ecotourism represents all types of nature-oriented tourism areas designed to ensure social well-being, economic growth of the regions and the preservation of natural systems. It has been shown that in the territories of more than half of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation there are mining formations. In the mountainous regions, significant potential has been identified for the development of various types of ecotourism: high landscape, biological and ethnogenetic diversity, the presence of objects of natural and historical and cultural heritage and specially protected natural areas. The following promising areas of ecotourism have been proposed in the mountainous regions of Russia: geological tourism (North Ossetia-Alania, Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagestan, etc.), speleotourism (Altai, Krasnoyarsk, Khabarovsk Territories, Chelyabinsk Region, etc.), agritourism (Altai, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria, etc.), island tourism (Primorsky and Khabarovsk Territories, etc.), tours to volcanoes (Kamchatka Territory), etc. The potential of ecotourism has been shown to be marginally exploited. It was concluded that for the development of ecotourism in the regions under study, large investments are required in the tourist and recreational complex, the transport infrastructure of hard-to-reach mountainous areas, to train qualified specialists and attract the indigenous population to the recreation and tourism sector. Solving the indicated problems in combination with scientifically based approaches to the rational use of tourist and recreational resources in the future will allow developing domestic and international ecological tourism here.
