Abstract

The article deals with the results of studies of the possibilities of the S-approximation method in the construction of analytical approximations of the earth’s surface relief. Analytical approximations for different types of terrain (plains, hills and mountains) and topographic data of different scales are obtained. For each type of relief the accuracy of the approximation is estimated and appropriate recommendations for the choice of model parameters are developed.
