Abstract

Relevance. In the Russian Federation and abroad, a significant amount of data has been accumulated on the Fourier spectra of ground motions during strong earthquakes. In Russian practice, these data are used, among other things, to estimate the spectra of the ground motions response necessary for seismic-resistant design. However, the procedures for this kind of recalculation are relatively complex and time-consuming. Therefore, at the moment it is useful to additionally have simpler, but with acceptable accuracy, methods of such calculations. The present research is devoted to the designing of a solution to this problem. Aim. Designing of new models for the probabilistic description of the reaction spectra of accelerations of ground motions in earthquakes of different magnitude and distance. The object of research. Empirical attenuation functions with the distance of the motion spectra of different types of soils during earthquakes. Methods. Comprehensive statistical analysis of a large volume of simultaneously recorded Fourier spectra and vibration response spectra of different types of soils during earthquakes of different magnitudes and distances. Comparison of integral (cumulative) Fourier spectra and reaction spectra calculated in pairs for various seismically active regions. The designing models of the reaction spectra were tested by comparing them with the spectra and peak accelerations of ground motions in real earthquakes. Results. Statistical models of the relationship between the reaction spectra and the Fourier spectra of ground motion accelerations have been designed, which make it possible to estimate spectral accelerations with acceptable accuracy based on available data on the levels of the Fourier spectral density of ground motions. The designed models are to a certain extent universal and allow us to estimate the spectra of earthquake reactions for different magnitudes, distances and frequencies, for different types of soils, as well as for simple (“situational”) and integral (cumulative) estimates. The use of the designed models made it possible to obtain new alternative estimates of the relations between peak accelerations of ground motions and maximum values of spectral accelerations of significant practical importance.
