Abstract

Relevance. The heat flow study provides basic and reliable information on the terrestrial temperatures in the Earth’s crust, on the matter phase state, which, ultimately, allows us to judge the nature of the tectogenesis driving forces. A detailed heat flow (HF) distribution analysis in different structural and formation zones of the East European Platform (EEP) shows that its magnitude is related to many geological heterogeneities of the basement structure and sedimentary cover of the platform, and is also conditioned by the peculiarities of the formation history of the regions modern structure. Aim. In this aspect was set the task to analyze the heat flow distribution in the area of the Voronezh crystalline massif (VCM). Methods. The thermal conductivity of core samples from the Voronezh parametric well with optic-scan method and the magnitude of radiogenic heat generation due to spontaneous decay of long-lived isotopes of uranium, thorium and potassium by X-ray fluorescence spectral method on X-ray vacuum spectrometer were investigated. The calculated reduced heat flow is set as a lower boundary condition in the numerical modeling of the depth temperatures along the profile across to the VCM. Results. The heat flow average value at the Voronezh massif (49±4 mW/m2) was determined. The radiogenic component of heat flow is 24-27 mW/m2, i.e. 50% of its background value. The detected HF variations are caused by structural and thermophysical inhomogeneities. They are associated with fracturing, micro- and macroinclusions in the basement rocks and are clearly visible at optical scanning of thermal conductivity of almost every core sample. The heat flow distribution map was constructed and the depth temperatures were calculated along the profile across the Voronezh crystalline massif.
